i-Oxytocin
All of our programmes entail blended learning methods and the option for face-to-face delivery. Our modules involve online reading, interactive lectures, large group exercise and small group activities. We use large group exercises for role plays and vignettes to draw out the salience of different encounters relevant to the learning experience. Our small groups are important and offer a personal nature for cultural self-assessment providing a safer space and so a closer level of insight can be nurtured within these sessions.

Are the Oxytocin-Learning programmes only available to men?
No, all of the Oxytocin-Learning programmes have been specifically developed for men and women from African-Caribbean backgrounds. The PDP (men) however is bespoke for African Caribbean males and the The PDP (women) is bespoke for African Caribbean females.
Why are your learning programmes only for people from African-Caribbean backgrounds?
Past and recent research has shown that Black men are over-represented within mental health inpatient and secure care services. Black people experience particular challenges that the learning programme has been designed to address. Over many years the Oxytocin-Learning team has learnt a great deal about what works when providing training to diverse groups and communities. Throughout all of our learning programmes we promote positive learning experiences from participants to inform on-going changes.
Can I apply if I'm in hospital or in secure accomodation?
Yes, all our learning courses are provided on-line and within the community based setting. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 situation all external training has been cancelled. When courses are provided in the community some individuals may require permission for escorted or unescorted leave.
Will there be a volunteering opportunity or job for me after taking part in the learning programme training?
There is no guarantee of volunteer or paid roles available as a direct result of our specific training. However by completing our learning programmes you will develop a wide range of transferable skills that will support you in your applications for future peer mentoring and culturally competent advocacy opportunities.
I would like to enrol on the advocacy programme, but I don’t know what to do. What should I do next?
The first thing to do is make direct contact with me: anthony@oxytocin-learning.com or make a 1-2-1 appointment or why not immediately enrol on the CCAT today. You are also welcome to have a chat and/ or log on to one of our information webinar and meet the programme facilitators direct. Remember all of our facilitators have lived experience of mental health or substance misuse challenges and will be able to answer many of the questions you may have.
