Cordwell brings an array of knowledge, skills and experience from working across various fields of health and social care. He has substantial experience in the area of advocacy and teaching in the community and academic institutions. His mantra is “When learning stops being fun, the learning stops”.

Cordwell is an experienced Mental Health Advocate with over 20 years experience. His approach to advocacy is enshrined within the Care Act 2014, which asserts that the role of the Independent Advocate is to support an individual or carer to understand information, express their needs, and wishes, secure their rights, represent their interest and support them to obtain the care and support they need.

He holds a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health.

Cordwell’s mental health efforts were illuminated when he served as a Lambeth Black Health and Well-Being Commissioner. The Lambeth Collaborative produced “From Surviving to Thriving” Report (2014). He is a Black Thrive community change agent, which enables him to co-produce improved services with South London and Maudsley, NHS Foundation Trust towards better access, experience and outcomes for African and African-Caribbean service users.
