Sean Bailey

Sean has a wealth of knowledge from his lived experience across the fields of race equality and mental health, these perspectives are contextualised by his working experience. His diverse family heritage gives him unique insights into issues of race and culture. Added to this, his personal journal gives him a real and in-depth understanding around issues of racial trauma, mental health challenges and resilience.

Sean has a thorough understanding of the mental health challenges racialised minority groups face in the UK. Sean is also a carer. He embraces his continual growth through his ongoing challenges. He has a profound level of knowledge of the experiences of fear, stereotyping and the coercion many Black communities face.

Sean also brings an array of transferable skills from his range of training and work experiences. This includes working within residential social work settings for teenagers; a career in the building industry; the market trade; as a postman; access course to the built environment leading to completion of first 2 years of architecture degree, amongst other roles.

Over the last four years Sean has been a key member of national and local initiatives in the area of racial inequality in mental health. He played a fundamental role in the delivery team in three of NHS England’s flagship culturally appropriate pilots, developing and delivering advocacy, peer support and personal development training.
